WOTC Questions: What is the minimum length of Employment to claim WOTC?

I hired a qualified long-term unemployed person who ended up only working for us for 6 weeks, can I still claim the WOTC credit on my taxes?

At CMS, as WOTC experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website. In the case of the above question, the sender did not provide their email address, so we were unable to reply directly to them. This is one of the more common questions (FAQ), so we thought we would share, and hopefully will help others too.

If the employee worked for six weeks, 40 hours per week full time, he/she would have reached 240 hours of work. The employer would be eligible to receive a 25% credit of the first $6,000 of his/her wages.

The WOTC credit is 25% of qualified first-year wages (up to $6,000) for those employed at least 120 hours, but fewer than 400 hours, and 40% for those employed 400 hours or more.
