WOTC Questions: How long must an eligible employee work before a company can claim a WOTC Credit?

At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box:

CMS Says: This applies to all target group categories: The employee must work at least 120 hours for you to be eligible for a 25 per cent WOTC Tax credit from $750 for a Summer Youth Employee to $6,000 for a qualified Veteran Unemployed at least 6 months.

If the employee works at least 400 hours, you can claim a 40 per cent tax credit from $1,200 for a Summer Youth Employee to $9,600 for a qualified Veteran Unemployed at least 6 months.

The average tax credit is $2,400. Actual credit amount varies based on category.
