WOTC Questions: I work with prisoner re-entry, and I help get them back to work, I was looking up the WOTC and how much an employer can get for hiring a felon?

At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box that we try to answer:

I work with prisoner re-entry, and I help get them back to work, I was looking up the WOTC and how much an employer can get for hiring a felon?

CMS Says: Hi, such a great cause you work for! The Work Opportunity Tax Credit is available to employers throughout the United States, when they hire an ex-offender or ex-felon. The credit applies to an ex-felon who has been convicted of a felony under any federal or state law, and is hired not more than 1 year after the conviction or release from prison for that felony. The maximum tax credit for hiring an ex-felon is $2,400.
