WOTC Questions: Is WOTC available for part-time seasonal hires?

At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit “WOTC” subject matter experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website and through the webcasts we attend. This week’s WOTC Question comes from the chat box on our website:

Is WOTC available for part-time seasonal hires?

CMS says definitely. This is a super-common question that we get through the website and during webinars, especially at this time of year with employers ramping up their hiring for the Holiday season.

Whether a part time, or full time seasonal employee, the WOTC certified employee has to work a minimum of 120 hours in order for you to receive a 25% tax credit on the first $6,000 of their wages. 40% tax credit of the first $6,000 in wages is available at 400 hours. It may take someone working less than 30 hours a week a little longer to reach the 120 hours, or 400 hours, but they are still eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit as long as they fall under one of the qualifying target groups.
