WOTC Questions: How does the employer know that a potential or new employee is on SNAP or has been unemployed for more than 26 weeks?

How does the employer know that a potential or new employee is on SNAP or has been unemployed for more than 26 weeks? I can’t imagine that this is something included on an employment application.

At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website. This week’s question came from an employee!

CMS Says: You would not know that immediately. The new hire has to complete the WOTC forms before you would know. You can include WOTC forms as part of the application as long as it is confidential and not shared with hiring managers, or include as part of onboarding.
