WOTC Questions: Can Employee Be Referred by Multiple Agencies?

I’m trying to figure out if an employee can be referred by more than one agency (Veterans Affairs, Ticket to Work Program, Rehabilitation Agency) for WOTC eligibility?

At CMS, as WOTC experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website. In the case of the above question, the sender did not provide their email address, so we were unable to reply directly to them.

Yes, individual employees can be referred by multiple agencies and still be eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. However, as an employer, you are only able to receive the credit once per employee. You would not receive 3x the tax credit if the employee was referred by 3 agencies.

For customers with no internet access available to employees, there is also a paper-based process available, fax or mail, or a call center that can screen new hires. (See Screening Options).
