WOTC Questions: I am applying for a job. On the WOTC, at the end it is asking for hire information. I’m not hired by the company I’m applying right now.

At CMS, as Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) experts and service providers since 1997, we receive a lot of questions via our website’s chat box:

CMS Says: Some employers do present the WOTC forms (8850 and 9061) to applicants as part of the application process, it’s completely normal to do so. However, the applicant is correct he/she does not have a hire date/start date etc. and did not know how to proceed. If the field on the form is a required field, enter today’s date. If not required, or the forms are on paper, leave blank. The employer typically provides that information on the form.
